Pickwickian syndrome
Pickwickian syndrome is the combination of severe obesity, a plethoric face and obstructive sleep apnoea causing hypoxia and hypercapnia resulting in marked daytime somnolence. It is named after the ‘fat and red-faced boy in a state of somnolency’ as described in the novel The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens
