]A 15 year old girl presents with fever, malaise and sore throat
Examination reveals tem of 38.3C with cervical lymphadenopathy.
Her results show:
Haemoglobin 12.8g/dl
White cell count 9.8x109/l
Neutrophils 3x109/l
Lymphocytes 4.5x109/l
Blood film reveals atypical mononuclear cells
What is the most likely diagnosis?
1) Acute lymphoblastic Leukamia
2)Brucellosis
3)Epstein Barr viral infection
4)Hodgkins disease
5)Sarcoidosis

The answer is infectious mononucleosis =(no.3 EBV) supported by the age,lymphadenopathy,and atypical cells in the blood film which is very specific for infectious mononucleosis.
