Unread post by Waggas »

Greetings

As I studied Medical Laboratory .. then worked as public and private hospitals in Sudan ...

I noticed that the norm for writing a result of the analysis of blood hemoglobin concentration in gm/dL

Followed by the percentage ... This percentage is taken from the premise that:

14.6 gm / dl = 100%

This information is not found in books and references ... Although it is used in Sudan on a large scale

Why?

This led to a misconception in patients ...

For example ... If found that the hemoglobin of adult man is 16 gm/dL for example - which is normal -

This means that the ratio will exceed 100%

Here, the patient will think that there is a problem ... Some attribute it - ignorance - to blood pressure

As well as in women ... Find one example, blood 13.5 gm/dL

This is equal to 92% ....

she will say it must increase the nutrition to reach the 100% !!!!!

In fact, it is the normal .... the 13.5 gm/dL is normal for female

secondary polycythemia

.

also some factors can affect the haemoglobin level ,for example some dehydration(for example in ramadan month), give u sligthly high readings and many doctors not notice this . I agree with you dr.waggas ,this topic need more researches and discussion to determine fixed ideal range and co-factors.thank you.
